Frequently asked questions

Should I go to the hospital emergency room?

For sudden loss of vision, a serious injury or a chemical burn, yes, without waiting. For a red eye, moderate pain, a foreign body or an infection, the optometrist sees you faster and can prescribe the treatment.

Is it covered?

An emergency visit to the optometrist is covered by RAMQ for people under 18 and 65 and over. For others, the fees are reasonable and often reimbursed by insurance.

What should I do while waiting?

Don't rub the eye, remove your contact lenses, rinse with clean water if there is dust or a product in it, and call us.
