Eye exams and care

Myopia control

Myopia progresses mostly between ages 6 and 16, and every extra diopter raises the risk of retinal problems later in life. Today it can be slowed. At Chicco Optique, our optometrists offer several solutions tailored to each child's needs, including Hoya MiYOSMART lenses, Essilor Stellest lenses, and MiSight contact lenses. More affordable alternatives may also be considered depending on the child's individual needs.

Myopia progressing quickly? What can you do?

When a child's myopia progresses quickly, early intervention is important. Today, innovative technologies can do more than correct vision: they can also help slow the progression of myopia and support long-term eye health.

Through regular follow-up, we monitor how the myopia evolves so we can adapt the care and offer each young patient a solution that fits their condition and lifestyle.

The key: detect, manage, and monitor myopia early. Book an appointment with our team to explore the available options and find the right solution for your child.

Frequently asked questions

At what age can we start?

Myopia-control lenses are worn like regular glasses and suit young children. For MiSight contact lenses, we start around age 8, once the child can handle them with a little help; our assistants show the child and the parent how to insert and remove them.

Glasses or contact lenses?

Both work. The optometrist recommends the best option based on the child's age, activities and how fast the myopia is progressing.

Is it covered?

The exam is covered by RAMQ for people under 18. The lenses, contact lenses and myopia-control follow-up are paid; many insurance plans reimburse part of the cost.
